Our affordable Baby First Aid Courses have been a great success. We have run three courses now and had great feedback from all of them. There will be some new dates coming up soon, so contact me to be put on our mailing list if you’re interested. I’m also looking to apply for funds so that we can run subsidised baby first aid courses for teenage parents, if you can help with this is anyway please let me know.
There have also been some great events. The Oxfam Get Together was a huge success, local mums raised £501 for women’s maternity care around the world. Local mums also took part in the Haringey Sports Relief mile where we raised £1500 and came in the top 20 of UK fundraising teams! We are currently planning some new exciting events which we’ll tell you about soon!

I’m a new mum living in Noel Park, Wood Green, Haringey. I’ve spent the last 15 years working as a Youth & Community worker and when I became pregnant I got really frustrated at the lack of information about what classes, groups and support were available so I decided to do something about it. The initial idea was to create an information website, but then as I began speaking to local parents and professionals I realised much more was needed and so I am now in the process of trying to set up a social enterprise ‘Local Mums And Dads’ that aims to inform, inspire and involve local mums and dads in Haringey.
We aim to promote community cohesion, access to services and informed choices by providing comprehensive listings and reviews of local services, products, groups and classes. Through this we have started building networks, evaluating local needs and designing projects that support parents to work in partnership with local organisations and business’. We offer volunteering opportunities, training and subsidised courses and workshops based on local needs.
Initially I’ll be applying for funding, but the hope is that in time the project can become self sustainable and that by creating revenue through advertising and other means we can then use that to fund local projects ie: a young mums project, a maternity film and subsidised courses and classes.
So far I am just getting started, but things are moving along quickly and within 6 months I have built up a basic website, done extensive research into local needs, created a volunteer network, achieved an active membership of over 100 local parents, and have initiated and supported parents in developing a number of events, workshops and projects. There are a lot more ideas in the pipe line but I would love to hear from anyone about their suggestions, comments or their interest in getting involved.
